Custom AI Server Connector and I/O Panel

AI server connector and I/O panels provide the mechanical interface between internal server hardware and external power, data, control and cooling connections.

Accurate cutout positions, controlled panel dimensions and reliable alignment are important because each opening must match the corresponding connector, switch, indicator or cable assembly.

We manufacture custom AI server I/O panels according to customer-provided drawings, CAD files and technical specifications. Prototype, low-volume and production support is available for AI servers, GPU computing systems, data center equipment and edge computing hardware.

This service covers the custom mechanical panel and specified hardware installation. Electronic connector design and supply should be identified separately in the RFQ.

Custom Interface Openings and Panel Features

Every AI server system has a different connector layout. The panel must therefore be manufactured around the actual hardware configuration rather than a standard opening pattern.

Custom features may include:
  • Power connector openings
  • Network and data port cutouts
  • Cooling tube or hose pass-throughs
  • Switch and indicator openings
  • Cable entry points
  • Fan and ventilation patterns
  • Equipment labels and identification markings
  • Mounting holes and slots
  • Grounding locations
  • PEM hardware and threaded inserts

When connector alignment is critical, the drawing should identify the locating datums and the dimensions that control the relationship between openings.
Connector models, technical drawings or physical samples can also help confirm the required cutout geometry during manufacturing review.

Cutting, Bending and Forming

Depending on the panel design, manufacturing processes may include laser cutting, CNC punching, deburring, bending, hardware insertion and mechanical assembly.

Flat panels may only require cutting and finishing. Other designs may include formed edges, flanges, stiffening features or mounting tabs that connect the panel to the server chassis.

Bending can affect nearby holes and openings. Important factors include:
  • Distance between cutouts and bend lines
  • Bend direction
  • Inside bend radius
  • Material thickness
  • Flange dimensions
  • Connector installation clearance
  • Access for fasteners and assembly tools

If a cutout is located too close to a bend, deformation may affect the connector fit or finished appearance. These features should be reviewed before production.

Materials and Surface Finishes

Material selection should consider panel strength, weight, corrosion resistance, electrical requirements, appearance and compatibility with the server chassis.
Material
Typical Considerations
Aluminum
Lightweight, corrosion-resistant and suitable for anodizing
Cold-rolled steel
Good structural strength and suitable for powder coating
Galvanized steel
Corrosion protection and potential grounding considerations
Stainless steel
Corrosion resistance, durability and industrial appearance
Available surface finishes may include powder coating, anodizing, plating, passivation, brushing, bead blasting or an as-fabricated finish.

The RFQ should specify the required finish, color, texture and any areas that must remain uncoated. Threads, grounding points, electrical contact areas and certain mating surfaces may require masking.

Coating thickness can affect connector openings, fastener holes and assembly clearances. Critical finished dimensions should therefore be identified on the drawing.

Dimensional Inspection

Inspection requirements are determined from the drawings, specifications and agreed project requirements.

Checks may include:
  • Overall panel dimensions
  • Connector cutout size and position
  • Mounting hole locations
  • Bend angles and flange dimensions
  • Hole-to-hole spacing
  • Hardware type and installation position
  • Surface finish and visible appearance
  • Panel fit within the related chassis
  • Marking content and orientation

For repeat projects, an approved sample or inspection fixture may help confirm the relationship between multiple connector openings.

If inspection reports, sampling requirements or specific documentation are required, include them with the RFQ so they can be reviewed before quotation.

Design for Manufacturability

A DFM review can help identify features that may create unnecessary cost, deformation or assembly difficulty.

Typical review points include:
  • Cutouts positioned near bend lines
  • Insufficient spacing between openings
  • Unclear tolerance references
  • Small internal corner radii
  • Hardware installed too close to an edge
  • Limited access for connector installation
  • Coating allowance on mating features
  • Conflicting drawing revisions
  • Missing material or finishing information

The final manufacturing method depends on the actual panel geometry, material, thickness, quantity and inspection requirements.

Typical Applications

Custom connector and I/O panels can support:
  • AI training servers
  • GPU computing servers
  • Rack-mounted server systems
  • Data center hardware
  • Liquid-cooled server equipment
  • Edge AI computing devices
  • Industrial computing systems
  • Storage and networking equipment

FAQs

Can you manufacture an I/O panel from our server chassis drawings?

Yes. The panel can be manufactured according to customer-provided 2D drawings, 3D CAD files and connector layout requirements.

Can you produce custom connector openings?

Yes. Connector openings, I/O ports, cable pass-throughs, ventilation holes and mounting features can be customized according to the drawing.

What tolerances are available?

Tolerance capability depends on the material, thickness, panel size, opening geometry and bending requirements. Critical dimensions should be marked on the drawing and reviewed before quotation.

Can you install PEM hardware?

Specified PEM nuts, studs, threaded inserts and other fasteners can be installed when included in the drawing or Bill of Materials.
